The external roof terrace project is unique in that it offers students and staff with communal open space on top of a key city building with access to excellent amenity; sun, views and outlook in a premium location. The new additions seek to reinforce the sense of Place on the campus and in the city.

The existing space has an excellent framework that has the potential to support a range of activities, for individual, groups, and events – all of which can co-exist if designed successfully. The terrace has so much potential to be made much better in many respects by enhancing the environmental conditions, providing flexibility and purposefully designed spaces that will be a centrepiece for the UTS Faculty of Law. The base building and existing landscape are a high-standard that can easily be incorporated into this revitalisation.

A large shade structure provides coverage to approximately 60% of the usable area and seeks to minimise the number of columns within the sapce to provide maximum flexibility. The cable stay structure and light-weight polycarbonate roofing system minimise weight on the existing slab. The seamless roofing system provides the ability to fine tune the shading required, provide visual connections to the trees encircling the terrace and sky, and reduce heat gain.

A temporary post and banner provides physical separation and privacy to allow the space to be divided in two for private functions.

New directional signage and upgrades to the lift lobby better connect the interior with the exterior.
